Our Team

“Memorable wines are the result of the unwavering commitment of a strong team.  No one single factor or individual can be credited with a wine’s success.  Thomas and Jim possess the character and dedication needed to help guide our team in its goal to produce world-class wines.”

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Cornell University. A Cabernet lover at heart, she’s often on the back deck overlooking the vineyard, sharing a wine from the cellar with friends who’ve stopped by for a visit.

Thomas Rivers Brown, Winemaker

Born in South Carolina, Thomas developed an interest in wine while studying at the University of Virginia. He promptly moved to California and immersed himself into the world of wine. In 1997 Thomas started his first position in winemaking at Turley Wine Cellars.

In 2000, Thomas joined the Schrader Cellars team, and by 2008 made history as the youngest winemaker to score two perfect 100-point ratings from Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate. By 2010, Food & Wine Magazine had named Thomas "Winemaker of the Year".

Thomas’ minimalist winemaking style focuses on celebrating the land and vintage from which he harvests the fruit. This approach allows each wine to establish their own unique identity, making no two wines the same. Over the years, Thomas has become one of the most sought-after consulting winemakers, making high-end wines throughout Napa Valley.  Today Thomas crafts a portfolio of wines, which include Schrader, Maybach, Aloft, Pulido~Walker, and QTR.

Jim Barbour, Vineyard Manager

Jim Barbour was raised on his family’s ranch in Rutherford where he learned the life of farming, a passion for land, and the understanding that hard work breeds success. After graduating from the University of California-Davis, Jim returned to Napa Valley to begin a career that would lead him to become one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after viticulturists. For nearly 40 years, he has been dedicated to his craft, producing premium wine grapes using traditional and contemporary hand-farming methods. Jim has planted and managed many prominent vineyards in the valley, including Hundred Acre, Grace Family, Checkerboard, Blankiet, Revana, Gandona Estate, Casa Piena, Seaver Family, Keever, Husic, Pillar Rock, DR Stephens, and more. Jim is an outdoorsman and devoted fly fisherman. When he’s not working in a vineyard, he can be found barbecuing in his backyard, relaxing at his mountain cabin, or knee-deep in the running waters of a stream filled with rainbows and browns.
