Vintage Notes

Our site is located on the lower elevations of Howell Mountain spanning 850 to 1200 feet and benefits from afternoon sun exposure and cool evening breezes. The vineyard is divided into seven blocks ranging from one-third to nearly two acres in size. In total, just over six acres are planted. Four clones of Cabernet Sauvignon were selected specifically for its soils. The vineyard is harvested according to these small blocks and vinified separately. When blended, the varying flavors create the complex wines of QTR Estate.

2016 QTR Chenin Blanc

Last Tasted: June, 2018
Drinking Window: Now through 2020
Varietal: 100% Chenin Blanc

New to QTR is the inaugural release of the Chenin Blanc. First grafted in 2015, Viticulturist Jim Barbour hand-selected budwood from Chappellet and developed a single block on the QTR Estate. The block consists of disrupted claystone bedrock with cobbles and boulders of volcanic matter. This rocky and dry soil provides the perfect foundation for a Chenin Blanc with round structure and incredible complexity.
Less than 14 planted acres recorded in Napa Valley, this rare varietal is vibrant and offers an exploration of tropical fruit, melon, citrus, and floral notes both on the nose and palate. Minerality undertones and mouth-watering acidity compliments the crisp palate of lemon blossoms, zesty lime, and white stone fruit. While refreshing and crisp, this Chenin Blanc has a long full finish perfect for pairing with a cream-based pasta.

The 2014 QTR Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from a 6-acre, sustainably farmed estate located at the foothills of Howell Mountain. The hillside intensity combined with a second year of drought contributed to explosive flavors of black and red berries, white pepper, cocoa powder and a sweet spice. The rich berry flavors on the palate are complimented with hints of fresh tobacco leaf and black tea. Finessed floral notes of dried rose petals and violet are prominent on both the nose and palate.
